trust and rest

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High, will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.  I said of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whim I trust.” (Psalm 91:1-2)

Are you able to rest?  Why or why not?  How is that ability, or inability, connected to your trust (or lack thereof) in God’s love and care?

The connection between rest and trust cannot be overstated.  In fact, without trust there can never be any real rest.  Rest requires security and safety of soul.  It requires peace of mind and heart.  It is an inner reality that allows us to not be dominated and ruled by our circumstances and surroundings.  It requires and unyielding belief in God’s infinite goodness and care.  Which comes about as a result of constantly dwelling in the shelter of the Most High.

O Lord, help me to trust in you.  For until I do, my soul will never be able to find rest.  Amen.
