alive

isaiah 35:1-10

at the end of the day

life wins

the parched land
becomes glad
the wilderness
rejoices and blossoms
it bursts into bloom
and shouts for joy

water gushes forth
streams flowing
in the desert
burning sand
becomes a pool
thirsty ground
becomes bubbling springs

and the redeemed
will enter Zion
with singing
everlasting joy
crowning their heads
gladness will overtake them
and sorrow and sighing
will flee away

this is the joy of the redeemed
life springs forth from death
lent always turns into easter

so strengthen feeble hands
and knees that give way
say to those with fearful hearts
be strong, do not fear
see your God will come

you can count on it

rend

joel 2:13

rend your hearts
and not your garments

to rend means
to rip in two
to tear apart
to see the fabric
fly and fray
to hear the violence
as the threads
are broken apart
what once was whole
is no more

yet in this case
it is not a garment
to be torn apart
but a heart

Lord, have mercy

Welcome to Ash Wednesday!
